William Montgomery Brown
William Montgomery Brown was the Bishop of Arkansas. They called him Red Bishop after he published his book Communism and Christianity in October 1920. The subtitle read: "Banish Gods from Skies and Capitalists from Earth!" He was the first Episcopal bishop to be tried for heresy since the Reformation, and the first of any creed in America to be deposed for heretical teachings. His book withstood a number of publications and was published in Russian in 1923.
When he learnt about Kuzbass in April 1921, William Brown handed Herbert Calvert $500 and sales return from his book to promote the project. Then Kuzbass founders decided to use the money to publish a monthly journal called "The Kuzbass Bulletin" in the USA (1922 – 1923).
